Some years ago we acquired two semi-derelict farm workers' cottages, dating from the mid- 1800's and formerly on part of the Holkham Estate. They were surrounded by a neglected landscape, but we could see huge potential with the woodland, sloping meadows, former quarry, pond and small river. We have gradually modernised and extended the buildings to form our home, and are part way through a long programme of landscaping changes.
Our breakfasts include fresh fruit salad or cereals, eggs from our own chickens, locally sourced, rare breed bacon and sausages, produce according to season from our kitchen garden, home baked bread, homemade jams, fruit juice, tea and fresh coffee. Individual menus arranged for vegetarians.
Occasional evening meals can be provided by prior arrangement. The local village pub has a lively atmosphere and serves lunches and evening meals, whilst there is a good choice of pubs and restaurants within easy driving distance.
You may like to walk around the grounds and through the wood. In summer, you can play croquet, although the rules may need slight adjustment to accommodate slopes and occasional disturbance by moles.
